Teeth Whitening

Having a beautiful smile may be even easier than you think. Many people achieve the look they've been dreaming of simply with teeth whitening.

It's safe, quick, and inexpensive, in fact, we can’t think of any cosmetic procedure that can give you such an enhancing result for so little cost. Just let us know at any appointment if you would like to begin whitening and we can advise you of how good a candidate you are. How good a candidate you are depends on a number of factors such as visible restorations (which do not whiten) or inherent staining within the teeth (tetracycline stains) just to name a couple. Many times a combination of whitening and replacement of some fillings or crowns works best.

It all starts with custom impressions of your teeth and in only a day or two your custom bleach trays will be ready for you to pick up. We provide you with a special bleaching agent that you put into the clear, almost invisible trays. With either our overnight or during the day bleach, our special bleaching agent bubbles stains right out of your enamel in a very short time without altering tooth structure or existing dental work in any way. When your teeth reach the brightness you want, only occasional touch-ups are needed to maintain your new smile.

Dental bleaching can be used to correct many tooth discolorations. These discolorations may have been caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest in bleaching technology, we can offer a safe method for creating a beautiful, "brilliant" smile. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be the only choice. But because of the low cost of bleaching treatments, bleaching is nearly always worth a solid try.

Key Benefits

  • Corrects many types of tooth staining.
  • Works on people of all ages.
  • Is a near permanent solution for a "dull" smile, restoring brightness and bringing a smile alive.

How is it done?

An impression is taken to make a specialized "tray" to hold the bleach against the teeth. The material is used either each night for one to three weeks (16%) or one to two hours during the day (22%), after which significant whitening will occur. In some cases, the change is nothing short of brilliant. For confidence in appearance, bleaching technology offers improvements in yellowing, aging or stained teeth. For very severely stained teeth, prolonged whitening or crowns and veneers may be more appropriate.

Considerations:

Over-the-counter bleaching agents are available at drug stores and pharmacies. However, since these products have the potential to either whiten non-uniformly or harm the gums and teeth without professional supervision, it’s better to use products that a dental professional offers.

Zoom Power Whitening

For those of you who hate to wait for results we offer a whitening system which will greatly accelerate the whitening process. In one and a half hours your teeth will have the results it may take a week or two to reach with the tray technique. Usually we will make you trays and have you take home some bleach to continue the effect for a few days afterward to make sure you maximize the whitening.

The procedure consists of sitting in the chair while we isolate your teeth and gums from the rest of your mouth. We then place a special type of bleach on your teeth and align a powerful light to shine on them. This light activates the bleach, releasing oxygen which powers away the intrinsic staining of your teeth. The whitening is done in 3 or 4, 15 minute applications after which we remove the isolating material, clean you up and get you on your way with a brighter smile than you came in with. The cost is more than the take-home technique, but worth it to many of our patients.
